Slate and tile re-roofs on homes and commercial buildings, surveyed first and fitted by our in-house team.
Roof replacement means stripping a pitched roof back to its structure and re-covering it with new breather membrane, treated batten and slate or tile. We are based in Poole, and our in-house team re-roofs homes and commercial buildings across Dorset and Hampshire. Every job starts with a free site survey and a written breakdown of options.
The re-roofs we have completed are shown further down this page, with the materials we used on each one.
Not sure whether you need a new roof or a repair? See our roof repairs in Poole and roof repairs in Bournemouth pages.
A repair suits a fault in one place, such as a failed flashing or a split valley. A replacement is the better route when the problem sits under the covering as well as on it.
At Putney, the synthetic slates were cracking across the roof, and water damage had reached the batten and breather membrane underneath, so both had to be replaced. At Clarkes Village, the first roof was failing: when the tiles came off, the breather membrane and batten had deteriorated.
When we survey a roof, we set out the options in writing, so you can see whether a repair or a re-roof makes sense. Read the Putney and Clarkes Village projects for the full jobs.
We have used both on the re-roofs we have completed. At Struan Gardens in Ashley Heath we fitted Cedral Thrutone smooth slates (blue/black), and at Putney we fitted Cedral Thrutone slates at 600x300mm, larger than the originals at the client's request.
Tile suits a roof that has to match what is around it. At Clarkes Village we reinstalled the existing tiles so they matched the surrounding buildings, and at Bingham Drive in Lyndhurst we used reclaimed plain clay tiles to match the existing pitched roof.
Our domestic roofing page covers the materials we fit on homes, and we can talk you through the options at survey.
We price a roof replacement after a survey, because the cost depends on the roof in front of us. The main factors are the size and pitch of the roof, and the access and scaffolding the job needs.
The condition of the timbers matters too. If the batten or structure needs replacing, that adds to the job, as it did at Putney. The slate or tile you choose changes the cost, and so does the lead work, particularly around chimneys and dormers.
Insulation and ventilation upgrades are a further factor. Our insulation and ventilation page explains what we do.
Every job backed by our 10-year IBG and 20-year standard guarantee
We strip off the old tiles or slates, batten and breather membrane to reveal the roof structure and rafters, as we did at Struan Gardens in Ashley Heath.
Where the structure needs work, we do it before anything is fitted. At Bingham Drive we re-constructed the pitched mono roof with timber rafters, and at Struan Gardens we completed carpentry to extend certain roof areas.
A new high performance breather membrane goes on, followed by treated roofing batten set at the gauge the new slate or tile needs.
Then come the slates or tiles, the ridge and hip details and the lead flashings, as at Clarkes Village, where we completed new hip sections and lead flashing works.
Four re-roofs and refurbishments from our recent projects, with the materials used on each.
This project was a complete refurbishment for the entire roof of the house. Working closely with the client we designed and managed the renovation from start to…

Lead problems don't always show themselves until there's already water getting in — we'll check it properly before recommending anything.

A repair deals with a fault in one place, such as a failed flashing or a split valley. A replacement strips the roof back and re-covers it. After a survey we set out the options in writing, so you can see which one your roof needs.
We strip off the old tiles or slates, batten and breather membrane, carry out any carpentry the structure needs, then fit new breather membrane, treated batten and the new slate or tile. The ridge, hips and lead work finish the job.
At Struan Gardens in Ashley Heath we stripped the old roof tiles and re-roofed the house in Cedral Thrutone slates. Whether slate suits your roof depends on its structure, which we check at survey.
We do not quote without seeing the roof. The cost depends on the size and pitch, access and scaffolding, the condition of the timbers, the slate or tile chosen, the lead work and chimneys, and any insulation and ventilation upgrades. Every quote follows a survey.
